Duffy Health Center Organizes "Christmas in July" Drive to Benefit Homeless on Cape Cod

JUNE 17, 2015 – Duffy Health Center will be collecting items to help people who are homeless and those at risk of being homeless stay safe in the heat this summer. Items such as bottled water, new T-shirts, hats, sunscreen, toiletry items, towels and bags or backpacks will be collected June 17-July 17 at the reception desk in the lobby of Duffy Health Center, 94 Main Street Hyannis, Monday - Friday: 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM.

Items will be packaged and distributed to Duffy clients over the summer. Case Manager, Karen Danskin, highlights the lack of basic essentials so many Duffy clients face, and the need for not only summer items, but also bags, "I meet so many people who carry around their important possessions in ripped plastic grocery bags. Everyone, including our clients, deserves better than that. Something as simple as a backpack can make a huge difference."

The mission of the Duffy Health Center is to improve quality of life for persons who are homeless or at risk of homelessness on Cape Cod through community collaborations and the provision of integrated medical, mental health, addiction treatment, case management and housing support services. Last year, Duffy served over 3,000 Cape Codders. If you would like to volunteer to collect items as a part of your community organization or school, email Elyse DeGroot at call 508-771-7517, ext 104.
