Mobile Health Clinic Comes to Lower Cape Outreach, Orleans

Press Release

June 29, 2011

HYANNIS, MA – Duffy Health Center is moving the location of its Mobile Health Clinic to the Lower Cape Outreach Council office starting July 13th. Hours will be 9 am to 11:30 am every Wednesday morning at 19 Brewster Crossroads, Orleans.

The Mobile Health Clinic has been located Wednesday mornings in the parking lot behind the CVS off Main Street. The new location is expected to be more accessible to people who are struggling economically, many of whom are utilizing services offered by Lower Cape Outreach.

The Mobile Health Clinic serves adults who are having trouble getting basic health care needs met and who do not have stable housing. The clinic is essentially a doctor’s office on wheels and is staffed by a nurse practitioner.

The nurse practitioner provides primary health care and, for more complicated health care needs, can connect patients with specialists and other caregivers. A benefits enrollment specialist is also on board to help people begin the enrollment process into MassHealth or other state health insurance plans. If an individual has private insurance or does not otherwise meet eligibility requirements, staff will be sure to assist the individual in accessing health care at a more appropriate location.

The Mobile Health Clinic also spends one day each week in Falmouth and Yarmouth. Comprehensive medical care is available every weekday at the Duffy Health Center, 94 Main St., Hyannis.

The Mobile Health Clinic began providing services in 2008 with the support of a federal grant designed to increase access to health care for persons who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Additional support is provided by the Boston Medical Center Health Net Plan and a grant from Irving Oil.

The mission of Duffy Health Center is to prevent and reduce homelessness on Cape Cod through community collaborations and the provision of integrated services to persons who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The mission of Lower Cape Outreach Council is to provide emergency assistance of food, clothing, and financial support to individuals and families in Brewster, Chatham, Eastham, Harwich, Orleans, Provincetown, Truro and Wellfleet, which will lead to healthy, productive and self-sustaining lives as part of the Cape Cod Community.
